Helpless

The monsoon session meanders towards yet another washout. Its surprising that the principal opposition party does not want a debate on an issue that they hold dearly to. I am sure it is because of the fact that chief ministers of states governed by them were equally responsible in the allocation of coal blocks. Why else would this sordid charade be played out. So we have to witness yet another farce, be party to one more insult to sensibilities and watch helplessly....

Closer home in Maharashtra, disputes over which taluka should get included as drought hit, irrigation scam, rioters abusing the police force, female foeticide continuing unabated, krupashankar singh still a free man, skip over 16000 potholes in Mumbai and we have to endure this helplessly....

What difference will a change make, everyone is equally corrupt, equally inefficient seems to be the popular sentiment, we are a nation of people resigned to their fate, waiting for a divine intervention. People who stood up and promised this have turned out to be equally guilty of shrill rhetoric, lack of focus and find themselves getting drawn into a political vortex. We continue to watch helplessly...

It is as if we are detached from the reality surrounding us, as if this is one more show on TV which will run forever, no matter who plays the principal characters. What will it take for us to rise from our stupor, this daze that we have all sought comfort in. What will it take for us to demand an accountability that we deserve from the people we have chosen through elections.
